Requirement to Provide a Tax Number for All Packages Sent to Vietnam

Starting from January 2026, Japan Post will implement a new regulation for packages sent to Vietnam. To ensure smooth customs clearance and avoid delays, recipients will be required to provide a tax number or personal identification number (12 digits).

To assist users with this change, GoMarket will start supporting the storage of tax number information as soon as you create an order via Japan Post’s shipping methods (expected from around December 22, 2025). This will make the shipping process from Japan to Vietnam faster and more convenient.

Who does this regulation apply to?

This regulation applies to all Japan Post shipping methods sent to Vietnam, including:

  • EMS
  • Airmail (standard packages)
  • Airmail (small packages)
  • Sea freight

It does not apply to carriers such as UPS, FedEx, FedEx Lowcost, or DHL.

Important changes to note

  • Providing the recipient’s tax number or personal identification number (12 digits) is mandatory for all packages containing goods.
  • This information will be declared in the electronic customs data under the field “TAX code / VAT number.”
  • Complete address and postal code must be entered according to the updated system in Vietnam.
  • It is recommended to provide a mobile phone number so the shipping company can contact you if necessary.

Important reminder

Please carefully check your address and postal code according to the latest updates, especially if your area has undergone administrative changes or mergers, to avoid any issues during delivery.
